NOVEMBER 3, 2008/HOUSTON/BALTIMORE – U.S. Development Group LLC (USDG), a leader in ethanol handling and distribution terminals, announced today that it has begun to receive and offload ethanol railcar unit trains at its Baltimore Transload Terminal. A multi-modal ethanol distribution hub serving the mid-Atlantic region, the Baltimore Transload Terminal forms a key link in the supply chain needed to meet the area’s growing demand for cleaner-burning blended fuel.
“We are delighted to see our throughput customers achieve the benefits of unit train movements of ethanol into the mid-Atlantic region,” said Mike Day, U.S. Development Group vice president of development. “We have already seen a substantial increase in terminal volume as the market adapts to the cost efficiencies, supply reliability and flexibility available through this latest addition to the USDG network of ethanol hubs.”
Located on 18 acres in a heavy industrial area, the Baltimore terminal receives inbound rail and ship/barge shipments and has outbound truck and pipeline capabilities. Rail service is provided by CSX Transportation, and the terminal features a 100 railcar unit train capability; a 150-railcar capacity yard; and a fully automated, state-of-the-art 20-spot railcar offloading facility. The terminal also boasts onsite locomotives and switching for ethanol unit train service with rapid turnaround times of less than 24 hours.
Additionally, the terminal has approximately 12 million gallons of dedicated storage capacity and offers pipeline connectivity for direct ethanol deliveries to CITGO and Motiva, with more connections in development. Onsite ethanol and gasoline blending is available at the fully automated, cardlock-controlled truck rack.
Based in Pasadena, Texas, USDG is an industry leader in ethanol handling and distribution terminals. U.S. Development Group companies are also engaged in designing, developing, owning and managing large-scale multimodal logistic centers in the United States. In addition to its project in Baltimore, USDG has major ethanol hub facilities in Dallas, Houston and Linden, New Jersey.
